WALNUT
Black Walnut is the only dark brown domestic hardwood. It is prized for its beautiful dark brown heartwood, straight grain, and widely varying tones. The sapwood can be light brown to yellow, and it often leads to truly stunning contrast in our pieces. One of the most favored woods for furniture, walnut is extremely durable.
Mahogany
Mahogany is most commonly associated with rich, gorgeous office furniture. It's consistent grain and beautiful texture lead to some really stunning pieces. A natural sheen in the wood can sometimes lead to edge-joined woods looking slightly different in color in some light, and perfectly matched in others.
The mahogany we use most often is Genuine Mahogany, often called Honduran Mahogany. We also use African Mahogany in some instances, but its stringy nature makes for a lot of extra work when we carve it.
Cherry
Cherry is definitely one of the most common domestic woods. Its light color and smooth texture make for some gorgeous pieces. Definitely one of our favorites to carve, Cherry really comes out well when we carve it. Cherry will darken over time, so know that your piece will change (for the better) as time goes on.
Oak
When we select oak, we don't go the traditional route. We spend a little more to get our hands on quarter-sawn white oak. The quarter-sawn brings a tighter look to the woodgrain.
Cedar
Aromatic Cedar makes our shop smell amazing! And, it looks great too. Significantly softer than the other woods we use, it's a dream to carve. The high contrast among the grain gives it the most interesting look. Our favorite badges come from Cedar.
